Our lifecycle approach to the environment
We perform environmental lifecycle assessments (LCAs) on all of our products, from cultivation to consumption – from crop to cup. We use these assessments to identify how the different phases in a product's lifecycle impact the environment and where we can make improvements. The results show that per cup of coffee (and tea), the cultivation phase and the consumer brewing phase impact the environment the most. These checks enable us to focus our efforts on the phases we directly control, such as manufacturing, packaging and design, as well as other phases along the supply chain that contribute significantly to the overall impact.

Here you can see the relative contribution of each lifecycle phase of a cup of coffee. The results, based on the Eco Invent database, measure the average within the roast and ground category.
