Global Environment Policy

D.E MASTER BLENDERS 1753 provides high-quality brands around the world. We strive to serve our consumers and customers while protecting the environment in our global community. We are committed to comply with or exceed applicable legal requirements and to continue to improve environmental performance in a sustainable manner that respects the earth and its finite resources.

Our Global Environmental Management System (GEMS) is a tool to help ensure environmental aspects are integrated into our daily business. GEMS also ensures constant attention to reducing waste, optimising natural resources and energy usage, and minimising the overall environmental impact of our business.

D.E MASTER BLENDERS 1753 is further committed to working with our suppliers and engaging in dialogue with members of our global community to make sound sustainable environmental progress. Our diligent adherence to this commitment will help us maintain our position as a leader in generating value for our customers, shareholders and society.

Global Safety Policy

D.E MASTER BLENDERS 1753 is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for its employees, contractors, and visitors. Each facility, through its management team, must implement a safety programme that includes appropriate job risk analyses and training, meets or exceeds applicable laws and government regulations, and complies with D.E MASTER BLENDERS 1753's own safety and health standards. We believe each job should be performed safely and we are committed to continuous improvement in our safety performance.

Because safety is everyone's responsibility, each employee is responsible for observing the safety and health rules and practices that apply to his or her job and work environment. Employees are responsible for taking precautions necessary to protect themselves and their co-workers, including immediately reporting accidents, injuries, and unsafe practices or conditions. Appropriate and timely action will be taken to address known unsafe conditions.

The health and safety of all employees, and the quality and productivity demanded by consumers, customers, and stakeholders, require each employee to report to work free from the influence of any substance that could prevent him or her from conducting work activities safely and effectively.

Engaging Stakeholders

D.E MASTER BLENDERS 1753 acknowledges the great value and importance of good relationships with the stakeholders in our value chain. In many cases, such relationships have developed over the years into constructive partnerships in which we continue to work and further develop specific projects or guidelines to keep improving our business.

With our trade partners, local governments and extension services, we work in countries of origin to further upscale and improve sustainable coffee production. In a broader context, we co-operate with trade and industry partners, governments, NGOs and standard- setting organisations to tackle some of the pre-competitive issues in sustainable coffee and tea production that none of us can solve on our own.

Since coffee has always been a topic for public scrutiny, we have a history of lively interaction with interest groups. Our company has co-operated and will continue to co-operate with every reasonable request when it comes from groups that (1) have a legitimate interest in the way we do business (2) that want to make an active contribution in helping us improving our business and (3) in cases where we are certain that our relationship can result in a productive outcome in the longer term.

Genetically Modified Ingredients

D.E MASTER BLENDERS 1753 recognises that governmental agencies have the expertise and legal authority to issue legislation, guidelines and resolutions on genetically modified (GM) foods. D.E MASTER BLENDERS 1753 complies with GM regulations issued by the European Union, and the United States authorities (USDA, FDA and EPA) and other national regulatory bodies in markets where D.E MASTER BLENDERS 1753 is present.

Consumer confidence in our products is of high importance for D.E MASTER BLENDERS 1753. That is why in Europe, due to the preferences and interests of some consumer groups,

D.E MASTER BLENDERS 1753 avoids the use of GM ingredients. We do that through contractual agreements with our suppliers aimed at purchasing only ingredients from conventional (non-GM) sources.
